Short and plain: what this site counts, what it keeps on your phone, and what it never does.
We count visits and a few events — for example which book was picked, when a game starts and ends, when AI practice is opened — to learn what helps the children.
The tool is Rybbit. It works without cookies. We do not store IP addresses: a device is recognised by a short code (a hash) made from the address and the browser, and from the address only the country and region are worked out.
We also see which page was open, the kind of device and browser, and the language.
We do not record the screen.
We also collect errors of the page itself (no personal data), so that we can fix them.
The numbers travel through our own address (hehechinese.com/stats) to Rybbit. Rybbit states that its servers are in Germany, in the European Union (source).
The site saves only its own settings on your device: the language, the books you chose and the lessons you opened, the messages you have read, whether AI practice is on, whether recordings also play the translation, and a few small choices of how a page looks.
They stay on the device. We do not send them anywhere.
The language of a page comes from its address (/nl/, /pl/, /ru/; English has no prefix). When you pick a language in the switcher, the choice is saved on this device, so that the site opens in that language next time — like the other settings.
They are optional and start only after you turn them on. What we keep for them is described here: More.
“Report a problem or idea” at the bottom of every page (a translation fix, a missing book, or a message): we receive only what you type, together with the page it was sent from and the language of the site.
An e-mail address reaches us only if you type it in yourself, and we use it only to answer you.
Comments under the news: we keep what you type, your name if you give one, your e-mail address and the language of the site. They are stored with our hosting provider, Netlify.
A public comment appears on the site after we have read it, with your name and the date — never your e-mail address. A private one is seen only by us.
We use your e-mail address only to answer you and, if you tick the box, to tell you about new comments under the same message. Every such e-mail has a link to stop them. To have a comment removed, write to us.
It is off on every device until a parent turns it on.
The conversation takes place in ChatGPT or Gemini, on the parent's account. This site sends nothing there except the practice text, which the parent pastes in (on a computer: opens with one click).
What happens to the conversation afterwards is set by the rules of those apps, not by us.
The fonts are on our own server — the site does not connect to Google.
Write to us through “Report a problem or idea” at the bottom of any page — choose “Message”. We read every one. If you want an answer, add your e-mail address.
